Guided me to find my voice
“Shauna helped me navigate the challenging relationships that orbited around my mother and affected her care. As my mother’s dementia progressed, I was finding it more and more difficult to discern how best to help her. Shauna’s approach is to keep the elder at the centre of all decisions, and I was grateful for her philosophy.
“Shauna coached me on how to handle my older sister, who had stopped talking to me and was threatening to strip my mother of her decision-making rights. I felt helpless and scared. I didn’t know how to respond to my sister’s intimidation. Shauna listened to me, read through the email messages I had received from my sister and counselled me. Shauna’s insight helped me uncover a new sense of strength and courage.
“Shauna provided tips and strategies for interacting with my mother in a care-filled way. I stopped using the word remember in conversations with my mother, whose memory was affected by the dementia. When she became fixated on a point that eluded her, such as what time she was to eat dinner, Shauna taught me how to redirect her focus in a positive way. Shauna affirmed how much I loved and cared for my mother, and that affirmation reassured me, particularly when faced with interactions with my sister. Shauna’s professional experience enriched my relationship with my mother.
“Shauna’s ability to listen, care and equip is a true gift for her clients. At a time when I was feeling lost and inadequate, Shauna guided me to find my voice, center my purpose and find peace in my role within my mother’s journey with dementia.”

My life is much better now
“[Shauna-marie’s] services and support helped me recover from [my daughter’s] abusive behaviors towards me over the years.
“I had my daughter … living in my house, rent free. I needed her to leave, without having to take her to court, which would have been very costly. My mediator found a lawyer, who drew up a contract for [my daughter] to leave the premises. She left, after the contract was signed, and I was able to get the house repaired and ready to sell within a few weeks.
“My life is much better now since the house has been sold. I am no longer concerned about the costly upkeep of my house. My finances have improved, and I am now able to start saving once again. My relationship with [my daughter] has also improved.”

Provided a calming voice
“Shauna helped to navigate a breakdown in communication with my son and his wife as I was refused access to my granddaughters. I learnt through support from Shauna that even though my intentions may be pure, I can't control how my actions will be perceived.
“Shauna helped me to stay focused on the goal of seeing my grandchildren again. Being right, didn't matter in the long run. Shauna provided a calming voice to a situation that was embroiled in anger and hurt. Today, I see my grand children on a regular basis and can participate in their life. That is a gift that I will be eternally grateful for.
“Thank you for all of your guidance and support Shauna.”

We needed legal and medical guidance
“Our father at 88 had no plans to leave his rural lakeside home. With mid-stage dementia, no drivers licence, inconsistent homecare & no family in the immediate area, it was medically evident he was no longer capable of living on his own. Repeated attempts to discuss retirement homes were outright rejected with anger and then withdrawal. At this point, moving forward we needed additional legal and medical guidance.
“Over a 4-month period, Shauna had many conversations with him and other family members. With her help, we were able to get him situated in a Hamilton area retirement home in a timely fashion.
“The family is grateful to Shauna and the medical teams for their help during this stressful period.”
